How it works

Paste your text and type a keyword. The tool counts total words, keyword occurrences and density percentage (with an ideal 0.5-3% indicator), plus a frequency table of the 10 most common words in your text.

Keyword density without the folklore

Ancient SEO folklore claimed a magic density (2%, 3%…) would win rankings. Modern reality is simpler and harsher: there is no magic number. Search engines understand language, not just counts.

  • What density is still good for: spotting accidental over-optimization. If your target phrase appears 8% of the time, the text reads robotic — to humans first, and to search engines second.
  • The healthy range most editors target: main keyword around 0.5–2%, plus natural variations and synonyms. Write for readers; check the meter only to catch excess.
  • Related terms matter more: a page about “air fryer” that never mentions cooking, temperature or crispy is weaker than one that reads naturally on the topic.
  • Where keywords genuinely count: title, headings, first paragraph and the URL — one clear appearance each beats twenty repetitions in the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is keyword density?+

The percentage of times a keyword appears relative to the total word count: (occurrences / total words) x 100.

What is the ideal density?+

Most SEO guides recommend 0.5% to 3%. Higher can look like keyword stuffing to Google.

Does it count partial matches?+

It counts exact matches of the keyword (including phrases) in the text.

Should I optimize for density?+

Write naturally first — density is a diagnostic, not a target. Over-optimizing hurts readability.

What is the top words table?+

The 10 most frequent words in your text with counts and percentages — useful to spot accidental repetition.

Is it free?+

Yes, completely free with no account.
