H1_Hash Generator - SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 | MultiTool

Generate cryptographic hashes of any text: SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512. Instant, local, free.

How it works

Paste any text, pick one or more algorithms and get the hash instantly. All hashing happens locally with the Web Crypto API — your text never leaves the browser.

Hashes: the digital fingerprint

A hash function takes any input and produces a fixed-size fingerprint — change one comma in a 500-page document and the SHA-256 output changes completely. That property, avalanche effect, is what makes hashes the backbone of digital trust.

  • Verifying downloads: software sites publish SHA-256 checksums — hash the file you downloaded; if it matches, not a single bit was corrupted or tampered in transit.
  • Password storage: systems store hashes, never passwords. At login, they hash what you typed and compare fingerprints. (Real systems add “salt” and slow functions on top.)
  • MD5 and SHA-1 are retired: researchers demonstrated collisions (two inputs, same fingerprint), so they are no longer safe for security. Prefer SHA-256 or SHA-3 — both available here.
  • One-way street: a hash cannot be “reversed” into the original — there is nothing to reverse; information is intentionally lost. The best anyone can do is guess inputs until one matches.

Your privacy

Everything runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is ever sent to any server or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hash?+

A fixed-length fingerprint of data. The same input always produces the same hash, and you can't reverse it to get the input.

What is SHA-256 used for?+

Password storage, file integrity checks, blockchains and SSL certificates. It is the most widely used hash today.

Should I store passwords as SHA?+

No — for passwords use a slow algorithm like bcrypt or Argon2 with a salt. SHA is for integrity checks, not passwords.

What is the difference between the algorithms?+

Output length and strength: SHA-1 (160 bits, deprecated), SHA-256 (256 bits), SHA-384 and SHA-512 (stronger).

Can I verify a file with it?+

Yes — hash the file content here and compare with the published checksum.

Is it free?+

Yes, completely free with no account.
